THE 'A' REGISTER
The MGA Register aims to promote the MGA marque in all its variants, and help owners gain the maximum enjoyment from their cars.
The A Register is all about having fun, especially in your MGA. We are the part of the MG Car Club that caters for owners, drivers and admirers of the MGA. In pursuit of the objective of having fun, each year the Register organises a range of activities, which are included in the Calendar of events.
The Autumn Rally
The Autumn Rally is the premier event on the MGA Register calendar and is one not to be missed. It has been run every year since 1979 and run over a weekend in mid to late Autumn, usually before the weather turns. If you like the enjoyment of light mental competition mixed with great social interaction then this is the event for you.
The rally starts on the Saturday morning at a set meeting place. Entrants are provided with briefing notes, route instructions which set out prescribed route and a set of questions. The challenge is to navigate the route and answer as many questions as you can, answers to which are usually found along the route. The Rally stops for morning tea, lunch and then arrives at the overnight location. There is time for some refreshments and socialising before the rally dinner where there will be lots of fun and interaction.
Each year a different theme is chosen and participants are encouraged to exploit this theme throughout the event, especially at the dinner where many people will dress in character. Prizes are awarded through people’s choice for the best characters on the night.
Usually with great anticipation, the answers to the days questions will be revealed at dinner and the days results will be posted.
Day two starts with a healthy (or not so healthy) breakfast before two more sessions of navigation and a few less questions. The final destination will be for Lunch usually within an hour or so of Melbourne. At this time the final results will be tallied and winners will be announced and prizes awarded.
The focus of the event is to have fun while perhaps travelling some roads you may not have driven before and stopping at some places you may not have visited before. And of course there is no better way to meet new people than spending a couple of days together exploring in your MG. New members or prospective members are especially welcome.
The register also organises picnic runs, social evenings and technical events throughout the year. Although advertised as "MGA events" members of all registers are welcome to attend no matter what car they drive, whether it be a pre-war car or the modern MG built by SAIC or any model in between. Conversely, Register members participate in events organized by other registers and there is a keen element that takes part in club competition events.
The Register is administered by a committee of about ten members who meet every second month with elections held in December.
We also have a pool of expertise to advise on:
Repairs – Restorations – Modifications
Trade networks - professional experts
Buying and selling - sourcing parts
Advice on originality - Marque history - Competition set-up
We are always looking for keen MGA people to assist with ideas and help run events. New members find this a great way to get to know others in the register and the club.
For any information on future events or about the Register generally, get in touch with the Captain or any of the
Committee Members listed.
