MGCCV Club Concours

February 22, 2020

Yarra Glen Racecourse - Gates open at 8am

The MGCC Concours at Yarra Glen is in association with the AOMC British and European Concours. Plenty to keep you amused with food, drink accessory stalls and hundreds of great cars (some may also be for sale so bring your credit card).

If you reckon your car isn't good enough to show in the Concours because it doesn't have a new paint job, new upholstery and re-chromed bits, well you are wrong, there is the Preservation Class. It is for those cars that have not been restored and still have most of the original bits and pieces - all you need to do is make sure it is clean and in working order - so bring it along and you may win a gong. Or you can just come along and park your car in the line-up and not have it judged for the nominal entry fee ($20).

Entry forms on the available from the Club Calander

MGA Night No.1

Books, Books, Books and more Books!

Unveiling the latest MGA book to hit our library "MGA - the revolutionary MG" by David Knowles

Besides this book there will be plenty of other MGA and motoring books on display to browse through. Feel free to bring along your favourite motoring book and tells us why it is such a good read. There will also be a Buy, Swap, Sell and Give Away table if you are looking to trade or declutter.

Pizza supper provided for a gold coin donation.

A teaser for the book:

The MGA truly marked a revolution in MG sports car design, with its appearance quite unlike any previous production car from the celebrated British marque. Entering production in the summer of 1955, it broke with the time-honoured tradition of narrow-gutted, flat-sides, upright styling, with the distinctive large grille, exposed headlamps, separate wings and sharply cut-off tail that had serviced the majority of MG sports cars for well over thirty years. Many die-hard MG enthusiasts of the time were understandably outraged, but the decision to break with tradition proved to be a good one: over 100,000 cars were produced over the model's seven-year lifetime.

This book, from celebrated author David Knowles covers: the circumstances that led to the momentous decision to make such a fundamental design change; the production, publicity and evolution of each and every MGA variant from launch in 1955 to the end of production in 1962, with specification tables for each model; profiles of the people who had crucial roles in the development of the MGA and finally, the largely untold story of overseas assembly in Australia, Ireland, Mexico and South Africa.
200 colour and 300 b/w photographs

About the Author
David Knowles has been researching and writing about British cars for well over a quarter of a century. In that time, he has been lucky enough to meet and befriend many of the key people who were crucial to the design, development and manufacture of the great MG and Triumph sports cars. David Knowles is by profession a Chartered Civil Engineer. He is currently working on a sister volume to this one: MGB - The Superlative MG.

Back by popular demand

Golf Day at Rob Roy on the Australia Day holiday 27 Jan. You don't have to play golf, you can just come along and watch, or sit in the shade and sip on a chardy. After lunch is the gumboot and rolling pin throwing competition if you feel energetic - private health insurance is encouraged.

Golfers are encouraged to bring along their clubs, a few balls and tees to share with team mates (a putter and a 5 iron is about all most will need). This is an Ambrose better ball competition. There are (9) teams of (6 or 7) players from each register. The holes are all par threes so there is minimal walking and it is all over in about 2 hours.

Golfers need to be at Rob Roy by 9 am for the briefing and 9:30 tee off (shotgun start - all start together). Spectators can rock up any time. The BBQ will be going (bring your own food) and we will have chairs, tables and easi-ups setup but will help if you can bring your own chairs, etc so no one misses out. MGs will get preferential parking.
