No 4 - "A" Night - Nostalgia

November 20, 2019

Contact : Garry Kemm ( mg.kemm@outlook.com ) and Paul Vermont ( paul@vinwiring.com.au )

The subject of this one is "Nostalgia".

What we are looking for are early photos of your MGA with your photo in it - the earlier the better. Even your mate's MGA with a photo of his girlfriend (or boyfriend) are acceptable, better still if you ended up dating or marrying her (or him).

You will have to give a little speech about where, when and why. Old racing or Rob Roy photos keenly sort.

Email your photos direct to the email addresses listed in the title.

As usual we will be supplying pizza for a gold coin donation.

Don't wear your trousers with deep pockets if you have short fingers!

An added attraction on this night will be Loz Scott from Geelong MGCC talking about his latest book on Magnettes (we let him in as we consider them MGA sedan cars).

'A' night previously scheduled for Thursday 16th May has been changed to an 'A' Morning of Mourning on the Hoist,  Sat 18th May.

Commencing at 9am and going through till 12 noon. Bring your car along to the Clubroom, whack it on the hoist and we'll give it an appraisal - good, bad or ugly.

There will be plenty of free opinions and advice given on anything that ails your A be it oil leaks, gearbox, diff, suspension, brake or wheel related.

We won't be fixing them on the day but we can let you know if you need to take action, how much it may cost and whether you can attempt the repairs yourself.

Our first A Night for 2019 will feature a video conference link with the guru himself. We will have a video link to Barney somewhere in the wilds of Florida direct to our meeting. You will be able to hear about his four and half year travels around the US and Canada in his MGA with An Attitude and ask him questions.

A pity Barney wont be able to join us for a beer and pizza at the end of the night!

Australia Day Holiday Challenge

January 27, 2019

Our first Register event for the year is the Picnic and Golf Day at Rob Roy on Mon. 28 Jan in conjunction with the B Register. The golf competition kicks off first and will be over by lunchtime ready for a picnic/BBQ lunch (self catered) followed by the traditional Gumboot and Rolling Pin Throwing competition.

All Register members are invited to take part in the golf competition - it may help a little (or may not) if you have played golf before. It is an Ambrose team competition where each team member tees off and the next shot is taken from where the best shot landed and so on. The course is short, all par 3s so not a lot of walking involved. Each team starts on different hole, so all start and finish together. Clubs, balls and tees provided if needed (a putter and 8 iron should suffice). The winning team will be honoured with a plaque on the Golf Day Trophy to be displayed in the Clubrooms - a 1920 MacGregor Rob Roy driver (hickory shaft, leather wrapped handle). There will also be a Nearest the Pin competition, drinks cart, etc. Spectators and cheer squads are encouraged. The golf competition starts with a driver briefing at 9:30 am, competition starts at 10 am and finishes at 12 noon.

The Octunda BBQ along with our other big portable BBQ will be fired up for those wanting to cook. The Club gazebos will be erected but if you want to be sure of shade it would help if you brought your own, same with tables and chairs (limited quantity available a Rob Roy). MGs will also get preferential parking!
The Golf Course will remain open during the afternoon for anyone who would like a social round or wish to prove they are a better than what they displayed in the morning session!

If you wish to join an A Register golf team either let Mark Patane (patanem@optusnet.com.au) or Mike Ellsmore (mike.ellsmore@gmail.com) know.
