Our first Register event for the year is the Picnic and Golf Day at Rob Roy on Mon. 28 Jan in conjunction with the B Register. The golf competition kicks off first and will be over by lunchtime ready for a picnic/BBQ lunch (self catered) followed by the traditional Gumboot and Rolling Pin Throwing competition.
All Register members are invited to take part in the golf competition - it may help a little (or may not) if you have played golf before. It is an Ambrose team competition where each team member tees off and the next shot is taken from where the best shot landed and so on. The course is short, all par 3s so not a lot of walking involved. Each team starts on different hole, so all start and finish together. Clubs, balls and tees provided if needed (a putter and 8 iron should suffice). The winning team will be honoured with a plaque on the Golf Day Trophy to be displayed in the Clubrooms - a 1920 MacGregor Rob Roy driver (hickory shaft, leather wrapped handle). There will also be a Nearest the Pin competition, drinks cart, etc. Spectators and cheer squads are encouraged. The golf competition starts with a driver briefing at 9:30 am, competition starts at 10 am and finishes at 12 noon.
The Octunda BBQ along with our other big portable BBQ will be fired up for those wanting to cook. The Club gazebos will be erected but if you want to be sure of shade it would help if you brought your own, same with tables and chairs (limited quantity available a Rob Roy). MGs will also get preferential parking!
The Golf Course will remain open during the afternoon for anyone who would like a social round or wish to prove they are a better than what they displayed in the morning session!
If you wish to join an A Register golf team either let Mark Patane (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Mike Ellsmore (email@example.com) know.
